Standing committees: Service Committee, Philanthropy Committee and Fundraising Committee

Service

Each semester, the brothers of Phi Sigma Pi participate in a variety of service events. Whether it’s planning and implementing the next broomball tournament to raise money for the Help A Willing Kid Foundation or participating in a dance marathon to donate to the Children’s Miracle Network, the brothers of Phi Sigma Pi are hard at work to service the community in which we are a part of.

Philanthropy

““What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”
― Albert Pike

The philanthropy committee supports and communicates with a local organization based out of the Crown Boxing Gym in Lansing called the Help A Willing Kid foundation. The Philanthropy Committee’s most recognizable event is Teeter-Totter-A-Thon, a combined fundraising/service event that occurs each fall. Brothers Teeter-Totter for 24 straight hours, sometimes through snow and rain, never missing a beat, raising money the entire time. We have a strong partnership with HAWK that includes opportunities for tutoring, grant-writing, and cooking.

Fund-raising

““What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”
     ― Albert Pike

The Fundraising Committee’s purpose in Phi Sigma Pi is to raise money in order to keep our Chapter dues low and to provide committees with funds necessary to run their events. Its members expect to meet each semester’s goals, but also strive to exceed this mark and provide greater monetary flexibility each semester. It is a difficult job, yet very rewarding, as we search for creative ways to raise money without a large expense budget.

Examples of past events include cleaning up MSU’s sports arenas, including the Jack Breslin Center and Munn Ice Arena. Its members have also sold programs at home football games, participated in EastStreet promotions, partnered with restaurants to gain a percentage of their sales on a particular day, and printed and sold Breast Cancer awareness t-shirts.
